SQM 2019 – First Bulletin

Dear Colleagues,

The 18th International Conference on Strangeness in Quark Matter (SQM 2019) will be held in Bari (Italy) from 10 to 15 June 2019. The conference venue is “Villa Romanazzi Carducci”, an ancient fully modernised structure surrounded by beautiful gardens and located close to the city centre. The SQM 2019 conference will consist of invited and contributed talks and poster presentations, beginning the morning of Monday, June 10, and ending early afternoon on Saturday, June 15.

Scientific topics

The scientific programme of the conference will include the following topics:

  • Strangeness and heavy-quark production in nuclear collisions and hadronic interactions
  • Hadron resonances in the strongly-coupled partonic and hadronic medium
  • Bulk matter phenomena associated with strange and heavy quarks
  • QCD phase structure
  • Collectivity in small systems
  • Strangeness in astrophysics
  • Open questions and new developments

Registration and Conference fee

Registration will be handled by the CERN Indico system: it will open on 1 December 2018 and will continue through 1 June 2019. The conference fee is 390 € for early registrations (for participants who register and pay within 1 April 2019) and 450 € for late registrations (after 1 April 2019). The fee includes all the coffee breaks and lunches, the welcome drink, the excursion and the conference banquet. Further details on the accepted payment methods and accompanying person fee will be posted soon on the website. On-site registration and payment will not be possible.

Abstract submission

Abstract submission for parallel talks and posters will open on 1 December 2018 and will continue
through 15 February 2019. Abstracts can include LaTeX notation and are limited to 2000 characters (including spaces). Notifications about selected contributions will be delivered by 15 March 2019.

Accommodation

Participants are kindly requested to directly book their rooms in Bari. Early booking is highly recommended, since Bari is a very requested tourist destination, especially during the high season, and there are other events scheduled with partial overlapping with SQM 2019. A limited number of rooms has been reserved with special pricing for SQM 2019 attendees at the conference venue (Hotel Mercure Villa Romanazzi Carducci). Additional room contingents are being negotiated with other hotels nearby: further details will be posted soon on the conference website.

Travel

The nearest airport to the Conference venue is the “Karol Wojtyla” Palese International Airport (IATA airport code: BRI), located 15 km away from the city centre. Bari is well connected with the main Italian hubs in Rome and Milan and with several European cities by direct flights. Visa information

Information about VISA requirements for travel to Italy can be found on the following web page: http://vistoperitalia.esteri.it/home/en. Citizens of the EU, EEA, Switzerland, most countries in America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and South Korea do not need a VISA to enter Italy. Citizens of other countries may need a VISA: please check the web page above. Letters of invitation for VISA purposes will be available upon request for registered conference participants.

About Bari and Puglia

Bari is the capital of the Puglia region and one of the biggest cities in the south of Italy. Typical maritime and market city, the city developed industrially in the second half of the twentieth century and nowadays boasts an important trade fair, the largest in the southern Italy. Student support

The active participation of young researchers is a very important aspect of the Strangeness in Quark Matter conferences. Student support will be provided to a limited number of students and young postdocs, in the form of full or partial waiving of the registration fee. Applications for the support will be open from 1 December 2018 through 15 February 2019. Support acceptance will be notified by 15 March 2019.
